Comelec eyes to proclaim winning senators by Tuesday
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec), which is sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), is eyeing to proclaim winners in the 2022 senatorial elections by Tuesday, May 17.
Comelec acting spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said that as of Saturday, May 14, the NBOC has canvassed 149 out of 173 certificates of canvass (COC).
“We are on track with our timeline. ‘Yan talaga ang projection namin (That’s our projection)… Tuesday is still early next week,” Laudiangco said in a press briefing.
“That’s our optimistic projection. Still within our timelines na (which is) early next week,” he added.

“In-approve ng ating supervisory committee and the oversight committee na sa senator-elect, they have three companions so that’s practically four already times 12 [senators],” he added.

The Comelec official added they are also entertaining the possibility of proclaiming the “top-tiered” partylist groups ahead.
“Meaning ‘yung mga matataas na nakuha ang boto na hindi na maaaring maapektuhan doon sa distribution at application of formula nung hindi pa dumadating na partylist votes,” Laudiangco said.
(This includes groups that received a high number of votes that can no longer be affected by the distribution and application of formula for partylist votes that have yet to be canvassed.)
Laudiangco said there are 24 COCs—19 of which are manual overseas COCs—left to be canvassed.
He said at least six of these will be canvassed when the NBOC resumes its canvassing on Sunday afternoon. These are COCs from India, Laos, Pakistan, Hungary, Poland, and Chile.
“We’re still awaiting the overseas COCs of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Vatican, Iran, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Syria, and Mexico,” Laudiangco said.
