PH logs 139 new COVID-19 infections; active cases decrease to 3,177

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) logged 139 new infections on Thursday, based on the COVID-19 tracker available on its website.

While still slightly lower than the average cases recorded the previous week, May 2 to 8, at 168 cases per day for a total of 1,124 infections, this is still higher than the infections logged on Wednesday, which was only at 109.

Despite more new infections, active infections decreased further to 3,177.

With this, the total number of confirmed infections now sit at 3,687,567 nationwide, with 3,623,938 recoveries and 60,452 deaths.

A total of 20,505 individuals, meanwhile, was tested on Wednesday, May 11.

This comes just a few days after the May 9 national and local elections. An independent think tank — Octa research — earlier warned that Metro Manila could see 500 to 1,000 new COVID-19 cases per day should the coronavirus transmission increase after Election Day, May 9.
