Pagasa: Rain expected in parts of Mindanao due to LPA; fair weather elsewhere

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA), spotted east of Davao City, will trigger rain showers in parts of Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday.

The LPA, embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, was spotted 490 kilometers east of Davao City as of 3 a.m.

“Sa kasalukuyan ay meron tayong mino-monitor na low pressure area sa loob ng Philippine area of responsibility,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.

(We are currently monitoring a low pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility.)

“Ayon po sa ating latest analysis ay mababa ‘yung tsansa nito na maging bagyo ngunit continuous monitoring po tayo,” she added.

(Based on our latest analysis, it has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone but we are continuously monitoring.)

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen regions as well as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
