LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — More than 300 members of various militant groups clad in black clothes staged a protest rally at Peñaranda Park here on Wednesday afternoon.
The protesters showed their indignation against Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s win at the unofficial count of votes from the May 9 elections with placards and streamers bearing messages “No to Marcos-Duterte,” “Marcos Kriminal (Marcos is a criminal),” “Marcos isikwal (Ban Marcos),” “Dayaan halalan labanan tutulan (Cheating in the elections, fight, protest).”
“The coming back of Marcos Jr. in power would lead to many more killings and oppressions to Filipinos, just like what the late dictator (Marcos Jr.’s father and namesake) did when martial law was declared and for that they should not be proclaimed winners because the Comelec (Commission on Elections) have done poorly in the election process,” Connie Angeles, a member of Kabataan party-list, said.
The militant groups are also questioning the intergrity and credibility of the election results which they alleged seems to be programmed and manipulated.
After the protest activity, the mlitant groups marched to St. Gregory The Great Cathedral to hear Mass.
Since night of May 9, several protest rallies and prayer vigils have been organized in different areas in the country by supporters of Marcos Jr.’s rival Vice President Leni Robredo due to alleged in the elections and the transmission of votes from the provinces to Comelec.
