MANILA, Philippines — A total of 105 violators of liquor ban put in place for elections were apprehended by the police in various places in Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported on Wednesday.
In a statement, NCRPO chief Police Major General Felipe Natividad said the 105 violators “sold, furnished, offered, bought, served, and consumed liquor within the metropolis.”
Of the total number of violators, 62 were reported by the Quezon City Police District; 27 by the Manila Police District; eight by Northern Police District; six by Eastern Police District, and two by Southern Police District.
Violators of the liquor ban “may face the penalty of imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than six years without probation.”
The Commission on Elections, through resolution 10746, imposed a liquor ban on the eve of election day — May 8 — until election day on May 9.
The ban has since been lifted.
