TACLOBAN CITY — The province of Samar is now completely under the influence and control of a single political family as the Tans made a clean sweep in the top elective positions.

Rep. Sharee Ann Tan of Samar’s second district would return as governor of the province as she overwhelmed her rival, Gemma Zosa by 111,635 votes.

Tan obtained 286,002 votes while Zosa got 168,367 votes.

Her younger brother, Reynolds Michael, who currently serves as governor of Samar, will assume the congressional post.

Reynolds Michael became the governor of the province when their mother, Milagrosa, who was elected as governor in 2019, died in November that year.

Their sibling, Stephen James, also won as a congressman of Samar’s first congressional post. He defeated incumbent Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento by 38,896 votes.

Stephen James obtained 127,541 votes while Sarmiento got 88,645 votes.

The siblings’ uncle, Arnold, was elected as vice governor, defeating board member Alma Uy.

He received 270,152 votes against Uy’s 155,220 votes.

The Tan family has ruled the province for more than 20 years now.
