MANILA, Philippines—Political neophyte Sandro Marcos, the son of presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., has been proclaimed as the representative of Ilocos Norte, the bailiwick of the Marcoses.
According to the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) transparency server, showing 100% of election returns, Marcos got 108,423 votes, beating his opponent incumbent 1st District Rep. Ria Fariñas, who got 83,034 votes.
“It is truly an honor to stand before my kakailian and be called the Congressman elect of the 1st district of Ilocos Norte. Thank you to all of you for giving me the privilege to serve, there’s much work to be done!!” Marcos wrote in a Facebook post showing he was proclaimed by the Comelec.
Meanwhile, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, Sandro’s cousin and the son of Sen. Imee Marcos, won his reelection bid for governor.
He got 261,885 votes against veteran politician Rodolfo “Rudy” Fariñas, who garnered 94,372 votes.
Sandro’s father, Bongbong, is currently leading in the partial and unofficial count of the Comelec, garnering 31 million votes, with 98.05% election returns transmitted.
His votes were more than twice of what his chief rival, Vice President Leni Robredo, got, which is over 14.7 million. /ra
