Iloilo incumbents see re-election by wide margins

ILOILO CITY—Incumbents in the city and province of Iloilo are poised to be re-elected by wide margins in Monday’s elections.

Based on 98.61 percent of unofficial and partial election returns, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is trouncing Salvador “Jun” Capulot Jr. with a margin of more than 130,000 votes. The third candidate, Vicente Ang, got more than 700 votes.

Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon is also winning by a landslide with a margin of more than 120,000 votes against Kayser Jadulos.

Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda is also poised to win by a margin of more than 60,000 votes against former mayor Jose “Joe” Espinosa III.

Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is winning by a landslide against Noli Gil with a margin of more than 850,000 votes based on unofficial and partial results.

Vice Gov. Christine Garin ran unopposed.

Re-electionists Iloilo Representatives Janette Garin (1st District), Michael Gorriceta (2nd District), Lorenz Defensor (3rd District), and Raul Tupas (5th District) were also set to be re-elected.

Gorriceta ran unopposed, while Tupas was set to defeat his elder brother, former representative Niel “Junjun” Tupas Jr.

Former Iloilo 4th District representative Ferjenil Biron is also set to regain his former seat with a wide margin over Antonio Parcon and Reynaldo Galeno.
