17 arrested for violating liquor ban in Central Visayas
CEBU CITY, Philippines–At least 17 persons were arrested by policemen in different parts of Central Visayas for allegedly violating the liquor ban imposed by the government as the country selects its new leaders.
Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, regional police chief, said Bohol had the highest number of arrested individuals at eight, followed by Lapu-lapu City, four; Mandaue, three; and Cebu province, two.
Police also arrested 13 individuals for violating Presidential Decree 247, which prohibits and penalizes defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of Central Bank notes and coins.
The arrested persons were accused of attaching money bills to sample ballots. /ra
