MANILA, Philippines — A dress code is not required in entering polling precincts to vote, Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner George Garcia said Monday.
Garcia made the clarification following reports that dress codes are being required in some areas. One social media report said that voters who were wearing shorts were not allowed to enter a voting precinct.
“Wala pong dress code. Lahat makakapasok (There is no dress code. Everyone will be able to enter),” Garcia said in a Viber message.
Several issues such as faulty vote counting machines (VCMs) and power interruptions hounded elections in some areas in the country.
Despite these reports, the Comelec assured that the elections will continue.
“Sa part ng Comelec, it’s all systems go. Ina-assure namin kayo na kapag kayo ay pumunta sa mga polling centers, kayo ay makakaboto,” Comelec acting spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a press briefing on Monday.
