MANILA, Philippines — “A desperate scheme of fascists” was how Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate described the fake news circulating that a  resolution of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) had claimed that party-list groups belonging to the Makabayan bloc and human rights lawyer Neri Colmenares had been disqualified from the May 9 elections.

The fake resolution specifically claimed that the Comelec disqualified partylist groups Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Kabataan, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), and Gabriela.

“In form, substance, and grammar it is clearly FAKE or bogus. It is clear that any candidate cannot be disqualified without notice or answer or comment on the petition against them,” Zarate said in Filipino.

“The truth is the disqualification case a long time ago against Bayan Muna had long been junked by the Comelec. This fake resolution is clearly part of the underhanded moves of NTF-ELCAC and its minions to again spread lies and fake news,” ended Rep. Zarate.

The NTF-ELCAC refers to the. National Task Force to End Local Communist Communist Armed Conflict.

The resolution had already been denied as fake both by Comelec Commissioner John Rex Laudiangco, the new Comelec spokesperson.
