UST suspends classes to allow voting

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas (UST) will suspend classes and office work from May 9 to 10 to allow eligible voters in the Thomasian community to vote.

“To allow the eligible members of the Thomasian community to exercise their right of suffrage this coming week, classes in all levels and office work in the University of Santo Tomas will be suspended on May 9 and May 10, 2022 (Monday and Tuesday),” an advisory posted on UST’s Facebook page read.

“Considering the sacredness of our votes and our participation in the electoral process, let us dutifully and wisely exercise our right to vote for the sake of the common good of the Filipino nation. Likewise, we pray for clean, orderly, credible, and peaceful elections,” it added.

Earlier, the Department of Education (DepEd) also announced the suspension of classes in public schools to give way to election-related activities. The grade levels covered are from kindergarten to Grade 12.

A total of 65.8 million voters nationwide have been registered for the May 9 polls, according to the Commission on Elections.

Voting hours will run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
