MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rains are expected on Wednesday due to different weather systems affecting the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its morning update, Pagasa said the low pressure area (LPA) it is monitoring will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in some parts of Mindanao.
The LPA was last spotted 185 kilometers east of General Santos City, it added.
According to weather specialist Grace Castañeda, the LPA has a low chance of developing into a storm in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, parts of the extreme Northern Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Islands, are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, this time, due to the frontal system.
The frontal system is the convergence of warm and cool winds from the northeast and southwest.
Pagasa warned of “possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.”
For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected due to the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
The state weather bureau also warned of “possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.”
Winds, coastal water
According to Pagasa, the extreme Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong east to northeast winds and moderate to rough (1.2 to 3.17 meters) coastal water.
For Visayas and the rest of Luzon, there will be light to moderate east to southeast winds and slight to moderate (0.6 to 2.1 meters) coastal water.
Meanwhile, Mindanao will have light to moderate east to northeast winds and slight to moderate (0.6 to 2.1 meters) coastal water, Pagasa said.
