MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Mindanao are still expected to experience rains on Tuesday due to a low pressure area and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) near the region, the weather bureau said.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said that while the LPA is not likely to intensify into a storm, it will still bring rains over Mindanao.

“Patuloy na nakakaapekto ang ITCZ sa Mindanao. Yung LPA na ating binabantayan ay hindi halos umalis sa kanyang kinalalagyan, malapit pa rin ito sa Mindanao,” he said in the weather bureau’s daily weather update.

“Mababa pa rin ang tsansa na maging bagyo pero inaasahan pa rin na ito’y magbibigay ng pag ulan sa Mindanao,” he added.

The LPA was last spotted at 230 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City, Aurelio said.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms is expected over Caraga, Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN where flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains, Pagasa said.

Meanwhile, the frontal system will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon, Aurelio said, which is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Flash floods and landslides are also possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains, the weather bureau warned.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa said flooding and landslides may also occur during severe thunderstorms.
