MANILA, Philippines — With the 2022 elections just a little over a week away, 158 farmer organizations and food security advocates across the country have gone all-in for presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
Municipal and provincial farmer organizations from various regions said they were backing the Leni-Kiko tandem due to the candidates’ sincere intentions to improve the lives of the Filipino people and boost agricultural production.
Amihan National Federation of Peasant Women, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas, Philippine Network of Food Security Programs, Sibol ng Agham at Teknolohiya and Agroecology X were among the signatories.
“We feel the sincerity of their programs to uplift the lives of the Filipino poor, especially the plight of poor peasants. We can see their clear plan and platforms for boosting agricultural production in the country along with recognizing the important role of farmers in society,” the groups said in a statement.
