Healthcare worker raped, killed in Cagayan
TUGUEGARAO CITY — A 27-year-old respiratory therapist at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center was found dead under the bed next to her room in Barangay Carig Sur here on Monday (April 25), police said.
Investigators identified the victim as Ma. Jennifer Suzette Oñate, a native of Gattaran town in Cagayan province.
Police said Oñate’s body was wrapped with a blanket and stuffed in a carton when it was found near her rented room on Tumanguil Street in Carig Sur about 5 p.m. A bag containing the victim’s bloodstained clothes was also recovered.
The room where the victim was found was traced to Vilfred Carodan, 31.
Carodan was arrested in Gonzaga town and admitted to raping and killing Oñate.
Citing accounts of Oñate’s husband, Renz, police said the victim had been unresponsive to his calls since the evening of April 23.
