CITY OF CALAPAN––Two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas were killed on Monday, April 25, in an armed encounter with police in Calintaan town in Occidental Mindoro province, the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police reported.

Police and military personnel were conducting intelligence operations when they encountered at 6:10 a.m. about 10 NPA members led by “Ka Floro” in Barangay Malpalon, the report said.

The encounter that lasted for about 20 minutes left two suspected rebels dead.

Government forces recovered two high-powered firearms and other paraphernalia at the clash site, according to the report.

Pursuit operations are ongoing.

Since January this year, the Mimaropa police, with the Localized Peace Engagement Cluster of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, reported the surrender of 63 rebels and arrests of six other NPA guerrillas.
