MANILA, Philippines — Stressing the need to improve the quality of education, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Tuesday teachers in the county should be given better support.

Marcos made the remark after Lanao del Norte governor Imelda Dimaporo pointed out that the education sector is one of the major concerns in their province.

“Ang educational system natin kailangang tingnan at bigyan ng mas malaking suporta ang ating mga guro,” Marcos told his supporters at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod town in Lanao del Norte.

Aside from addressing issues in the education sector, Marcos also stressed the need to create more jobs and improve digital infrastructure. He also vowed to continue the Build, Build, Build program.

“Isama natin yung digital infrastructure dahil yung internet natin naging napakalaking bahagi na sa buhay natin. Kailangan ayusin ang digital infrastructure para ang internet maging mas mabilis, malawak ang coverage at mas mura,” Marcos said.

(We should also address digital infrastructure because internet has become a huge part of our lives. We need to improve our digital infrastructure so that can have faster and cheaper internet with wide range.)

“Iilan lang yan na kailangan nating tugunan. Alam naman natin na dito sa krisis ng pandemya, nakita natin lahat ng Pilipino, kahit mayayaman, mahirap, sikat, lahat ng Pilipino ay nangangailangan ngayon ng tulong,” he added.

(That’s just a few of what we need to address. We know that in this crisis of pandemic, we saw Filipinos—rich or poor, even those who are famous need help.)

Local government’s backing

Marcos has secured the support of Dimaporo who has vowed to deliver their “full 101% support.”

“Lanao del Norte is really for BBM (Bongbong Marcos). Even our local political opponents are also supporting [him]. I told BBM I’m so happy in Lanao del Norte because even our political opponents are supporting you and Mayor Sara,” Dimaporo was quoted as saying in a press release of the Marcos camp.

In supporting Marcos, Dimaporo cited the presidential candidate’s knowledge on the needs of local governments. She also said she believes in Marcos’ call for unity.

“In my sorties, [I always say] ‘Bakit ko pinili si Bongbong?’ It’s not because magkakilala ang pamilya namin. It’s because alam niya ang pangangailangan ng local government units dahil naging bise gobernardor siya, naging gobernador siya, alam niya kung anong needs ng munisipiyo especially the barangays,” Dimaporo said.

(In my sorties, I always say, ‘Why Bongbong?’ It’s not because our families know each other. It’s because he knows the needs of local government units because he has served as vice governor, then governor, and he knows the needs of municipalities, especially in barangays.)

“That’s been my slogan. In my first run, ‘unity for peace and development’. You have to unite your people kasi kapag sobra ang politika sino ang magsa-suffer? Taumbayan ang kawawa,” she added.

(That’s been my slogan. In my first run, ‘unity for peace and development’. You have to unite your people because if it’s just politics, who will suffer? It’s our countrymen that will suffer.)

Also present during Marcos’ campaign in Lanao del Norte were some of the senatorial bets under the UniTeam slate such as Gibo Teodoro, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Mark Villar and Harry Roque.

Following his campaign in Lanao del Norte, Marcos will visit Cagayan de Oro where a rally will be held in the afternoon.
