CEBU CITY—More than 300 families were left homeless on Friday when fire destroyed more than 100 houses in densely-populated Barangay Suba.
Three persons were reported injured as the blaze created panic among the residents who were either preparing or eating their breakfast when the fire of still unknown origin broke out from the house of Tessie Tabucal at 7:16 a.m. The fire quickly spread as most of the houses were made of light materials.
Suba Barangay Captain Rogelio Resurreccion said 147 houses were destroyed in the fire in Block 1 and Block 2 (formerly Sitio Wakwak) located between Belgium and General Gines Streets.
The Cebu City fire department, however, reported that only 95 houses were destroyed while 11 houses were damaged. The victims were evacuated to the barangay sports complex and the Pasil fish port. Jhunnex Napallacan, Inquirer Visayas
