Gonzales to Church: Be politically involved but non-partisan
TAGBILARAN CITY – Presidential candidate Norberto Gonzales on Sunday, April 24, appealed to the Church to be politically involved but non-partisan leading to the May 9, 2022 elections.
According to Gonzales, a former Defense secretary, the Church is one of the pillar institutions of democracy.
“In times of national crises and perilous situations, the discerning, guiding and unifying presence of the Church as a moral and spiritual compass should not be compromised because of the laity’s perception of her partisanship,” he said.
Gonzales visited the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Shrine of the Diocese of Tagbilaran on Sunday afternoon.
He was received by Rev. Fr. Efren Bongay, parish priest, on behalf of Bishop Alberto Uy, and Rev. Fr. Herbert Delauo, resident assisting priest.
