MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will activate the voter precinct finder on April 22, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner George Garcia said Thursday, 18 days before the May 9 polls.
“Tumawag daw po kanina [DICT]. [Tomorrow] po i activate,” Garcia told reporters in a message.
(DICT called earlier. They will activate it tomorrow.)
Prior to the announcement of the scheduled activation, Garcia shared that the DICT is fixing the firewall.
“According to DICT inaayos na lang nila yung cloudflare para ma secure yung voterverifier. Waiting sa DICT if ready na sila ma ‘Go Live’ ang voterverifier,” he said.
(According to DICT, they are fixing the Cloudflare to secure the voter verifier. We’re waiting for DICT is they voter verifier is ready to “go live.”)
The DICT is ensuring the system will not be hacked, said Garcia.
“Palagay ko po [hindi]. Naninigurado lang [DICT na] hindi ma hack. Eksakto kasi period ng na hack dati ang precinct finder ng 2019,” he answered when asked if fixing the Cloudflare is a complicated process.
(I think not. The DICT is just making sure that there will be no hacking. It’s the same period when the precinct finder was hacked in 2019.)
The Comelec earlier signed a memorandum of agreement with the DICT for the latter to provide cloud hosting of the poll body’s online services.
Among the online services are the Registration Status Verifier, Precinct Finder, Online Voter Certification Application, and the National and Local Election Results Website.
