Sara Duterte condemns election violence after Ka Leody shooting incident

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — Vice presidential candidate Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said Wednesday she condemns election violence after an incident where gunshots were fired during an activity of presidential candidate Leody De Guzman in Bukidnon.

Duterte-Carpio said their camp had already written a letter to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the past requesting that reports of election violence and fraud be investigated.

“Of course, lahat ng (all) election violence and allegations of fraud, we condemn that,” Duterte-Carpio said in an ambush interview in Batangas City when asked about the shooting incident during the De Guzman activity.

“We already wrote the Comelec a general letter that if there is any allegation or incident, dapat lahat yun buksan nila (they should open that) with an official inquiry coming from Comelec,” she added.

According to Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, public information officer of the Philippine National Police Regional Office 10, the shooting happened around 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
