Marcos on junking of disqualification case: We’re happy it happened before polls

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — Presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. dubbed as a “good development” on Wednesday the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division to junk the final disqualification case against him.

In the ruling released Wednesday, Comelec First Division presiding commissioner Socorro Inting dismissed the case for lack of merit.

“It’s a good development and we’re happy that it happened before the upcoming elections,” Marcos said in an ambush interview following his campaign in Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, his running mate Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said she would leave it to the Marcos camp to comment on the issue.

“I have no comment on that, I will leave it to the team of Bongbong Marcos to give a statement,” Duterte-Carpio said in an ambush interview in Batangas City.

Marcos’ spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez said that with the junking of the final disqualification case against the presidential candidate, the Comelec ruled that Marcos “possesses all the qualifications needed to aspire for, campaign and serve as president of the Republic of the Philippines.”

“As advocated, elections are settled through the ballots on election day – not through the abuse of our judicial processes like the filing of nuisance petitions for disqualification,” Rodriguez said in a statement.

“It is now time for every peace-loving Filipino to work for a clean, honest, credible and fair elections, and allow the people to speak, their voices heard and votes genuinely counted,” he added.
