MANILA, Philippines — A total of 106 classrooms were “totally damaged” after the onslaught of Tropical Depression “Agaton,” the Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Tuesday.
In a presentation during an online press conference, DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service Director Ronilda Co said that the classrooms are located in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Bicol Region which reported 38, 36, 22 and ten “fully destroyed” classrooms respectively.
Co also said that 87 classrooms were partially damaged because of the Tropical Depression “Agaton.”
The total estimated cost for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the classrooms is at P308.5 million, she added.
Meanwhile, Co also said that the estimated costs of damaged computers, school furniture, and learning materials due to the typhoon is pegged at P567.86 million.
The total number of deaths following the onslaught of Tropical Depression “Agaton” has climbed to 175, with 100 more people reported to be missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
