MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate and labor leader Leody de Guzman poked fun at the joint Easter Sunday press conference of his rivals who declared that they are pushing through with their respective bids for the presidency.
Present in the joint conference held in a Makati City hotel were Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Senator Panfilo “Ping Lacson, and former defense secretary Norberto Gonzalez.
“Masarap ang halo halo dito sa South Cotabato pero di sing mahal nung halo halo sa Manila Pen. Ano bang kaguluhan dun ngayon?” said De Guzman in a Twitter post.
(The halo halo here in South Cotabato is delicious but not as expensive as the halo halo in Manila Pen. What mess is happening there now?)
De Guzman is currently on a campaign trip in South Cotabato joined by his running mate Walden Bello and senatorial candidates Roy Cabonegro, and David D’Angelo.

Moreno also called on Vice President Leni Robredo to withdraw from the presidential race.
Senator Manny Pacquiao was also supposed to join the joint conference but did not make it in time.
In a separate statement later that day, De Guzman dismissed the conference, explaining that he wasn’t interested in the games of elitist politicians.”
“Ang mga maniobrahan ng mga tradisyunal na elitistang pulitiko ay nakabatay sa self-interest at walang katuturan sa pang araw-araw na mga problema ng masa,” said De Guzman.
(The maneuvers of traditional elitist politicians are based on self-interest and irrelevant to the daily problems of the masses.)
“Hindi ako interesado sa ganitong mga laro. Kami ng mga kasama ko sa Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM) ay hindi mga trapo (traditional politicans) at hindi kami makikisawsaw sa burak ng kanilang bulok na pulitika. Isulong ang bagong pulitika ng masa!” he added.
(I am not interested in such games. My allies in the Partido Lakas ng Masa and I are not trapos and we will not wallow in the mire of their rotten politics. Advance the new politics of the masses!)
