Passi and a friend, Parveen Singh, also an Indian national, decided to swim on the beach at about 1:15 p.m. The latter had seen Passi waving his hand before disappearing from the surface.

Singh sought assistance from a lifeguard. Passi’s body was found floating 15 minutes later.

Rescuers administered first aid and rushed Passi to hospital but he did not make it.
