3 alleged NPA members die in clash with gov’t troops in Cagayan

Three alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with government forces in Piat municipality in Cagayan on Thursday night, the Cagayan Police Provincial Office reported on Friday.

MANILA, Philippines—Three alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in an encounter with government forces in Piat municipality in Cagayan on Thursday night, the Cagayan Police Provincial Office reported on Friday.

In a statement, the regional office said the Philippine Army personnel and some 15 communist armed rebels figured in a five-minute firefight at around 10:30 p.m. in Barangay Maguilling in Piat town.

The clash led to the death of alleged NPA rebels only identified with their aliases, “Kiko”, “Aldo”, and a medic identified as alias “Tiyung.”

No casualties were reported among the troops.

The regional police said the Scene of the Crime Operation and Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit recovered from the encounter site two cal. 45 pistols, a hand grenade, medical supplies and other personal items.
