Gov’t troops, NPA rebels clash in Cagayan town
TUGUEGARAO CITY — An 20-minute firefight ensued between government troops and at least 40 alleged New People’s Army rebels in Sta. Teresita town, Cagayan province on Tuesday, authorities said.
Maj. Jekyll Dulawan, Army’s 5th Infantry Division spokesperson, said soldiers discovered an anti-personnel mining factory in Barangay Dungeg, prompting them to carry out an airstrike at dawn.
The place was reportedly used by the rebels belonging to the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley as a manufacturing site for improvised explosive devices.
Dulawan said no Army soldiers were killed or wounded in the gun battle although they were expecting casualties among the rebels. INQ
