MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that it is now “COVID-free” after reporting zero active cases or new cases among its personnel on Tuesday.
This is the first time the PNP has recorded zero active cases since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
Based on its records, the PNP said 48,732 of its personnels recovered from the said virus in the 48,861 confirmed infections of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 129 died due to medical complications associated with the infection.
“Suffice it to say the PNP COVID-19 curve has significantly flattened with currently no new cases and zero active cases,” said PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos.
He explained that the curve was consistent with the national trend of COVID-19 cases in the country after PNP’s active cases dropped sharply in February after it peaked at 4,964 on Jan. 14, 2022.
Despite being COVID-19 free, Carlos warned PNP personnel to continue protecting themselves from the virus by following health standards.
“But this unseen enemy can still be everywhere, so let me remind our 224,362 PNP strong force to still protect themselves, maintain a healthy body, boost their immune system and regularly submit to medical check-up. There is no room for complacency,” Carlos said.
As for the inoculation drive, Carlos said that 99.59 percent of all PNP personnel have already completed their doses of anti-COVID vaccines, while 96.43 percent had already taken their booster shots.
