MANILA, Philippines — Newly detected COVID-19 cases were still on a decline while deaths continued to increase mostly due to delayed reporting.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), 1,906 new cases were detected last week by laboratory tests or an average 272 daily cases. This was 29 percent lower than the previous week’s 2,679 cases or 382 daily average cases.
The DOH reported 428 more deaths due to COVID-19, some as far back as two years ago, a number higher than the 329 deaths reported the previous week.
This pushed the COVID-19 death toll to 59,772 since the start of the pandemic.
As of Monday, there were 707 severe and critical cases in hospitals, 12 percent of total admitted COVID-19 patients. This was slightly higher than the 692 severe and critical patients a week ago.
Both intensive care unit (ICU) and non-ICU bed utilization for COVID-19 patients remained at low risk at 18.4 percent and 16.4 percent, respectively, compared to 16.5 percent and 16.7 percent last week.
