Twitter account of Pasig City PIO hacked
MANILA, Philippines — The Twitter account of the Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO) was hacked on Saturday evening, tagging thousands of other accounts before it was retrieved the next day.
In a statement, the Pasig PIO said its Twitter account was hacked at around 10:00 p.m., Saturday and tagged thousands of Twitter accounts containing a promo from a certain @AzukiOfficial.
“We apologize to the owners of the Twitter accounts who have been tagged to the aforementioned tweet and to everyone who has been inconvenienced due to this hacking incident,” said the PIO.
It then assured that it had already regained access to the account at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
“While we were able to retrieve the access to the account, we are still working on cleaning it up, specifically deleting the thousands of tweets made by the hacker,” it added.
Article continues after this advertisementThe office then expressed thanks to all those who flagged the incident and to the quick recovery of the Twitter account.
Article continues after this advertisementIt also assured that it had already instituted mechanisms to strictly limit access to the account and to ensure that future hacking incidents will be prevented.
The hacking occurred just hours after Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto held grand rallies in the city to drum up support for his reelection bid in the upcoming elections.
