Tropical storm Agaton maintains strength; Signal No. 2 up in 4 areas

MANILA, Philippines —  Tropical Storm “Agaton” maintained strength as Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) number 2 remains hoisted in Eastern Samar, Southern Samar, Northeastern Leyte and Northern Dinagat Islands, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) on Sunday morning.

Based on Pagasa’s 11 a.m. storm advisory, Agaton made landfall on Calicoan Island, Guivan, Eastern Samar at 7:30 a.m. Meanwhile, as of 10:00 a.m, the eye of the tropical storm is now located over the coastal waters of Guiuan, Eastern Samar as it moves westward slowly.

The typhoon maintained strength as it currently carries maximum sustained winds of 75 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 105 kph, while moving westward at 35 kph.

Rainfall warning

With this forecast, Pagasa warned heavy to intense with at times torrential rains to occur over Eastern Visayas and Dinagat Islands, while moderate to heavy with at times intense rains should be expected in Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Bohol, and Cebu.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are then warned over Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Rombion, Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Visayas and Caraga.
