COTABATO CITY––A lawyer and his driver survived an ambush Thursday by still-unidentified gunmen along a busy street in this city.

Colonel Rommel Javier, city police director, said lawyer Ronald Torres was unharmed after the 4:30 p.m. ambush at Rosal Street.

He was on board his bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruiser on his way home when the gunmen aboard a pick-up vehicle opened fire using automatic assault rifles. His driver, who was not named, was also unharmed.

No one has claimed responsibility for the ambush that came while the mandated election gun ban was supposed to be enforced.

Torres told reporters that he had no known enemies and believed the attempt on his life was work-related.

Police said they were still probing the incident.
