MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started giving commuters along the Commonwealth Ave.- Litex Road area in Quezon City free rides during the morning rush hour.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, in a statement, said the agency has deployed six buses and two trucks to accommodate passengers who are having difficulty in getting transportation in the area.

The MMDA’s free transportation service started on Friday and will continue  “as long as it is needed” from 5 am to 8 am everyday, Artes said.

Commuters will be dropped off at the Welcome Rotonda which is at the boundary of Manila and Quezon City.

Artes said the free rides given by the MMDA is just a temporary solution to the public transportation problem in the area.

“We are looking for a long-term solution and will coordinate with city bus operators and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Department of Transportation for a long-term solution to increase the number of PUBs (public utility buses) plying Commonwealth Avenue,” Artes added.
