MANILA, Philippines — Seventy members of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga is throwing their support to the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
“We believe in the kind of governance that would respond with radical love,” they said in a statement on Friday.
The priests also said they believe that the team-up of Robredo and Pangilinan is the “most competent and morally credible leaders our beloved and benighted country needs.”
Robredo is running for president while Pangilinan is running for vice president in the coming May 9 elections.
“In a situation where we witness the rise of blatant misinformation and deliberate disinformation that also leads to a grave distortion of our history as a people, we need leaders who will stand for and fight for the truth,” they added.
The priests then urged the faithful “to discern, decide, and make their choice on the basis of these values and their conscience.”
The 70 San Fernando, Pampanga archdiocese members’ endorsement of the Leni-Kiko tandem added to the growing number of church people, including several lay organizations, that are openly supporting the candidacy of Robredo and Pangilinan.
Other religious groups who have already expressed their support to the Leni-Kiko tandem were the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, Couples for Christ international council, and more than 500 members of “Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni.”
