MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated P600 million worth of smuggled and counterfeit motorcycle accessories, shoes, and clothing in a warehouse in Kawit, Cavite.

According to a statement from BOC on Friday, the counterfeit items were confiscated during an inspection of a warehouse in Toclong-San Sebastian Road on March 28.

The inspection team, composed of personnel from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Intellectual Property Rights Division, BOC-Port of Manila, BOC Revenue Collection and Monitoring Group-Legal Service, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, were authorized to inspect the facility through a Letter of Authority issued by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

The BOC stressed that “infringing goods are prohibited articles and should immediately be seized or confiscated” under Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

“Further investigation is also underway for other possible violations of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (RA 8293) and the CMTA,” the BOC added.
