MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will adopt a “running-scared” mindset despite their continuing lead in voter preference surveys since October.
House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez on Thursday said that even with their lead on the latest Pulse Asia survey, the Uniteam tandem will continue to build on the voter support they have.
According to Romualdez, president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats party under which Duterte is running for vice president, the Uniteam would revisit areas where they previously campaigned. Marcos is running under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
“As Mayor Sara has stated, we have a running-scared mindset. We will do our utmost to improve our candidates’ 56-percent voter support. We remain hopeful of a landslide victory,” Romualdez said.
Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco, spokesperson for Duterte, said in a statement Thursday that the growing percentage of people who support the Davao city mayor’s candidacy is “consistent with her untiring efforts and groundwork throughout this campaign.”
“[Duterte] is grateful to all our fellow Filipinos who have come out in record numbers to express their support for the Uniteam’s campaign of unity and hope,” she said.
