Isko Moreno: Coup likely if ‘red’ or ‘yellow’ wins; ‘if you want peace of mind, choose me’

MANILA, Philippines — “Kung gusto ninyo ng peace of mind, iboto ninyo ako.”

Presidential candidate Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said this Wednesday as he claimed that a coup d’état will be likely if either the “red” or “yellow” wins in the May 9 polls – and presented himself as “the alternative.”

Domagoso did not mention anybody, but he was alludingto the current and past campaign colors of his fellow presidential candidates former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Leni Robredo, respectively.

“It’s time to heal, time to move forward, walang nang awayan sa politika. Hindi na matitigil,” he said in an ambush interview in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur .

(It’s time to heal, it’s time to move forward, there should be no more fights in politics. Because once their disputes go on, when the other one wins, the other side will launch a coup d’etat. If the other wins, the other side will conduct a coup d’etat. It will never stop.)

Moreno also said.

(If you want peace of mind, vote for me. Because from what I’ve noticed, the dispute between reds and yellows is now intense. They now take it personally. That’s why I believe that this will not stop if one of them wins. They will take revenge on each other. It’s as if they run to defeat the other, this one political clan against the other political clan.)

Moreno has pegged himself as an alternative to what he calls a “feud” between two groups that the mayor said has been ruling for decades.

The Pulse Asia survey released on Wednesday revealed that Moreno remained in third spot with 8 percent in terms of voter preference, behind Marcos at 56 percent, and Robredo at 24 percent.
