2 killed in encounter with cops in Rizal
LUCENA CITY––Two armed men were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with police in Binangonan town in Rizal province.
The Calabarzon police said in a report that cops at a checkpoint in Barangay Mahabang Parang in Angono town at around 2:45 a.m. flagged down two men riding a motorcycle for not wearing the crash helmets required for riders.
But instead of stopping, the riders sped off, prompting the cops to give chase.
The motorcycle accidentally slid along the Madrigal road in neighboring Binangonan town. But instead of giving themselves up, both riders allegedly fired at the approaching police.
One of the cops, identified as “Corporal Buelo” in the report, was hit but was saved by the bulletproof vest he was wearing.
The police returned fire and killed the two on the spot. The report did not specify the gun calibers used by the suspects.
Investigators also found out that the motorcycle was reported stolen the day before in another part of Angono.
The police are conducting investigations to identify the suspects.
