TACLOBAN CITY––A police officer was killed while five others were wounded in an ambush Monday morning in Catubig town, Northern Samar.

Wounded in the ambush were Patrolman Rico Borja, Patrolman Leandro Luciano Bulosan, Army Corporal Arvin Papong, Private First Class Whilydell Jic Rodona, and Private First Class Wilmer del Monte.

Based on their initial report, a still undetermined number of armed men suspected to be New People’s Army rebels ambushed around 1 a.m. members of the 1st Police Mobile Force Company and soldiers of the 20th Infantry Battalion in Barangay San Miguel.

The police and soldiers were on their way to Barangay Osang as part of their community support program, when they encountered the rebels who used an improvised explosive device during the attack.
