Mining firm donates Short 330 transport aircraft to AFP

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday received a Short 330 transport aircraft which was donated by a mining firm.

In a statement, the AFP said the Short Brothers & Harland SD3-30 aircraft that was donated by the Semirara Mining and Power Corporation was turned over in a ceremony held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino, Major General Henry Doyaoen, Philippine Army Vice Commander, and Defense Undersecretary Cardozo Luna were present at the turnover and signing of the deed of donation.

“This will greatly impact the accomplishments of the unit’s mission of providing aviation support to its ground forces,” Defense Undersecretary Cardozo Luna.

The twin-engine turboprop aircraft has a maximum speed of 291 kilometers per hour with an overall length of 58 feet and a wingspan of 74 feet and eight inches.

The aircraft can also accommodate 27 passengers.
