MANILA, Philippines — Eleven members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered in Basilan following the death of its top leader, the military reported Wednesday.

In a statement, Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said ASG subleader Abdullah Indanan and 10 other ASG members surrendered in Barangay (village) Serongon in Hadji Mohammad Ajul town on Tuesday afternoon.

The ASG members also turned over eight M16 rifles, an M1 carbine, an M203 grenade launcher and one M4 rifle, according to Rosario.

The WestMinCom commander said the surrender was facilitated by the military in coordination with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front former commanders and other personalities.

It can be recalled that ASG top leader Radzmil Jannatul was killed in an encounter at Sitio Center, Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, Basilan last March 25. Jannatul’s body was recovered at the encounter site and was positively identified by the operatives.
