Pampanga gets new top cop
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––The provincial police office in this city has a new acting director after Col. Robin King Sarmiento was relieved.
Acting Pampanga police director Col. Jonas Amparo on Monday made a courtesy call to Gov. Dennis Pineda.
Amparo served as deputy regional director for operations of the Central Luzon police office before his new assignment.
Sources at Camp Julian Olivas said Central Luzon police director Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay had relieved Sarmiento from his post in the provincial police over the weekend while waiting for an official relief order from the National Police Commission.
Earlier, Baccay ordered the relief of 10 members of the Pampanga police intelligence unit. They were accused of taking more than P370,000 from those involved in illegal cockfighting before releasing them without filing charges.
