MANILA, Philippines — After two years of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 4 finally reopened on Monday for domestic passengers of AirAsia, AirSWIFT, and CebGo.
Ed Monreal, Manila International Airport Authority general manager, said the increasing number of passengers in Naia Terminal 3 was among the considerations in reopening Naia Terminal 4.
Around 93 flights were scheduled on the first day of the terminal’s resumption of operations.
“At first it was manageable since the travelers were not that vibrant [but] now Terminal 4 is really needed,” he told reporters on Monday.
AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said the reopening will help in managing the expected influx of passengers at Naia Terminal 3 with the start of summer and the Holy Week.
The airline expects 235,000 guests to depart and arrive via Naia Terminal 4 from April to May.
