Presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson
MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is still under Partido Reporma in the official ballots despite his resignation as its chairman, Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner George Garcia said on Friday.
“Sa kasalukuyan po dahil tayo ay malapit na malapit na matapos ang pag-iimprenta ng ating balota na gagamitin sa halalan, kung ano po ang nakalagay na pangalan at the same time yung kanyang political party by the time na siya’y nag file sa kanyang kandidatura, as far as the Comelec is concerned, yun po ay mananatili, at yun po ay magrereflect sa ating balota,” Garcia said in an interview on ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo when asked about the implications of Lacson’s resignation from the party.
(At present, because we are almost dome with the printing of the ballots, the name of the candidate and his party by the time he filed his candidacy, as far as the Comelec is concerned, is what will be reflected in the ballots.)
The Comelec already started printing the ballots last January.
As of Thursday, 87.2 percent or 58,838,453 out of the 67,442,616 ballots have already been printed, according to Garcia.
Lacson resigned as chairman of Partido Reporma on Thursday as the party shifted its support to Vice President Leni Robredo.
