MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial aspirant and former Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar said that he will push for the completion and continuation of Metro Manila Logistics Infrastructure Network, a priority program under the Build, Build, Build infrastructure program of the Duterte administration.

“Naaalala ko pa noong drawing pa lang ito. Ngayon, malapit na mapakinabangan ng mga Pilipino ang Binondo-Intramuros Bridge. Makakaasa po kayo na ilalaban natin sa Senado ang continuation ng Metro Manila Logistics Network Masterplan ,” Villar said in a statement.

Villar has pointed to the Metro Manila Logistics Improvement as a way to reduce the congestion on major highways in Metro Manila in order to achieve seamless travel and connectivity of Filipinos. In fact, he has completed the master plan and has begun implementing the Logistics Improvement Project in Metro Manila.

Included in the Metro Manila Logistics Network are six bridges crossing Pasig River, four bridges crossing Marikina River, and two Bridges crossing Manggahan Floodway, including North and South Harbor Bridge, Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, 2nd Ayala Bridge (Carlos Palanca-San Marcelino), Beata – F.Y. Manalo Bridge (Pandacan-Sta. Ana), F. Blumentritt – Antipolo Bridge, Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, (7) Kabayani-Katipunan Bridge, Reposo-Guatemala Bridge, J.P. Rizal-Yale Bridge, G. Gabriel St.-Mercury Ave. Bridge, and East Bank-West Bank Bridge 1 and 2.

These three bridges are a part of the overall Metro Manila Logistics Network. A total of 11 bridges over Pasig River, Marikina River, and the Manggahan Floodway are being eyed for the project.

The 961-meter Bonifacio Global City – Ortigas Center Link Road Project involves the construction of a 4-lane Sta Monica to Lawton Bridge across Pasig River connecting Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City and a viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue onwards to the entrance of Bonifacio Global City. Traveling between the central business districts of Taguig and Pasig Cities will only take 12 minutes.

The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, the much-talked-about “Friendship” Bridge spanning 807 meters, is a 4.61 B 4-lane, Steel Bowstring Arch Bridge project, which is expected to connect Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive and Binondo at San Fernando Street.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, a 1.37 B project, will replace the existing bridge with a 4-lane twin spine steel box girder bridge, spanning 560 meters, to connect Estrella Street in Makati to Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong.

“Ito pong mga proyekto na ito ay mahalaga sa ating mamamayang Pilipino, once all the bridges and links are up the end result is that EDSA will go back to its original capacity. My advocacy is to ensure the completion of projects like this. Ito po ay makakatulong sa ating mga kababayan at makakapagpalago ng ekonomiya at turismo ng bansa”, Villar ended.

Villar is vying for a Senate seat in the upcoming May 2022 national and local Elections.
