MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday brought his campaign to vote-rich Cavite province, the bailiwick of his colleague and opponent Senator Panfilo Lacson.
Pacquiao visited several towns in the province, including General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Dasmariñas, Silang, and Tagaytay. Cavite has about 2.3 million registered voters.
He first conducted a motorcade across GMA then paid a courtesy call on local officials, including Mayor Maricel Torres, in the municipal hall.

During his meeting with the local executives, Pacquiao said he is intentionally not holding grand rallies, unlike other presidential bets, because he wants to reach out directly to the communities to disclose his plans and programs if he wins the presidential race.
“Ang kampanya ni Manny Pacquiao, hindi naglalagay ng stage na malaki at papuntahin mga tao, medyo abala na sa mga tao ‘yun. Ako mismo bumababa sa mga maliit at mahihirap na lugar,” he said.
(We are not setting up big stages and calling people to attend because that’s too much trouble for them. I am personally going to small and poor areas.)
“‘Yun ang pinupuntahan natin kasi hindi napupuntahan ang maliliit na bayan-bayan. Mahihirap ang inuuna natin kasi gusto ko ipanalo ang mahihirap sa panahon ni Manny Pacquiao,” he added.
(That’s where we’re going because they are not often visited. We are prioritizing the poor communities. I want to champion the poor.)

In response, Mayor Torres said they are glad that Pacquiao visited their town and she wished for the success of the boxer-turned-politician in his latest political fight.
“Kami ay masaya dahil kami ay nabigyan ng importansya. Kami ay mananalangin na ang ating laban na darating ay maging matagumpay at matiwasay,” she said.

GMA has about 92,000 registered voters.
From GMA, Pacquiao held a motorcade across Dasmariñas and then proceeded to the new municipal hall of Silang town where he spoke before residents. There are about 136,000 registered voters in Silang.

In his speech, Pacquiao said he is pushing for local autonomy.
“Ang funding ay ida-download na sa local government para ang local government na ang mag-implement ng mga proyekto. I-empower ang Sangguniang Bayan,” he said.
(The funding will be downloaded to the local government so that it would be the local government who will implement the projects. We will also empower the Sangguniang Bayan.)
