Prosecution deserves a ‘little respect’, says Lacson

MANILA, Philippines—Members of the prosecution team, whether they are rightly or wrongly perceived as “inadequate,”  deserved a ‘little respect,” a senator-judge has said.

Senator Panfilo Lacson said Senator Miriam Defensor -Santiago “may be humiliating the members of the prosecution panel a bit too often” forgetting that most of them are also members of the House of Representatives.

“No matter how they are perceived, rightly or wrongly to be inadequate in their presentation of evidence, I think they deserve a little respect,” he said in a text message.

Lacson earlier said there might had been “excesses” at how the prosecutors were being treated in the impeachment trial.

Santiago, during last week’s hearing, referred to the prosecution team as “gago” or fool and even cited for contempt a private prosecutor who covered his ears while she was lecturing.

Lacson said Santiago’s use of the word fool was “uncalled for.”
