ILIGAN CITY — An Army barracks in Barangay Dalipuga here was struck by fire on Thursday, March 17, in Sitio Kalubihon, Barangay Dalipuga, Iligan City.
Report from the Army’s 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade said the barracks, made of light materials, was located inside the headquarters of the 41st Mechanized Infantry Company of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion.
The barracks hosted 13 rooms for soldiers.
Lt. Col. Marlon Famoso, commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, said their initial investigation revealed faulty wiring as the cause of the fire that broke out at 9 a.m.
Famoso said one of the rooms burned down was a stock room for vehicle lubricants.
Also burned down are four Vektor R4 rifles and a glock of the soldiers who occupied the barracks.
“No soldiers were injured during the fire. Those affected are temporarily staying in a multi-purpose hall but tomorrow, they will rebuild their place,” Famoso said.
SFO2 Julian Tangub, fire investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection, said the fire damaged a total of approximately P50,000 worth of property.
