MMDA: Metro Manila mayors ‘ready, willing’ to implement Alert Level 0

MANILA,Philippines — Metro Manila mayors are “ready and willing” to implement Alert Level 0 in the region if it will be ordered by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), the chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Tuesday.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said there is still “no definite decision” from the Metro Manila Council on possibly downgrading the present alert level status in the capital region.

“We are waiting for the guidelines of IATF regarding the protocols under Alert Level 0 so we can discuss it in the Council. What we can say for certain is that all the Metro Manila Mayors are ready and willing to implement Alert Level 0 if mandated by IATF,” Artes told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 1 until March 15.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier said that the government’s pandemic managers will discuss the guidelines for a possible Alert Level 0, which could end most of the health emergency restrictions in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that restrictions could be relaxed even further with COVID-19 cases continuing to drop.
